Can you find Paris?
Paris is located in the northern part of France. France is south of England and west of Switzerland.
Can you find France on this map? How about Macao? Can you describe which direction you would have to travel to get from Macao to Paris?
La riviere Seine
The Seine flows through the heart of the French capital, Paris. In Paris there are over 37 bridges crossing the river. The Seine is popular in art and photography because it offers a beautiful background for pictures. Is that more or less bridges than Macao?
France is known for its many different types of landforms:
Mountains
The French Alps are located on the east side of France. Toursits from around the world like to visit the Alps to enjoy skiing. The French Alps have an Alpine or mountain climate and the surrounding towns have about six months of winter and cool summers.
Beaches
You will find many beautiful beaches along the "Côte d'Azure" or French Riviera in the southeast corner of France. The climate here is Mediterranean so the summers are hot and dry and the winters are mild.
Vineyards and Farmland
Western France is full valleys, lush farmland, forests and vineyards. In the western France provinces there is a high level of rainfall, mild winters and mild to cool summers.
Plateaus and Volcanoes
The province of Auvergne is in the middle of France. It has inactive volcanoes, woodland and farmland. Some cheeses are made here in "jasseries" which are old stone buildings with slated roofs (traditional housing in the past).
